This training must cover topics such as patrol procedures, emergency response, legal issues, the role of the security guard in NC, communications, report writing and note taking.

Four hours of the training must be devoted to legal issues and the role of the security guard in North Carolina. This training must take place within 20 days of the employee being placed on post. The remaining 12 hours of required training must take place within 30 days of the employee being hired in a permanent capacity.

Armed Security Guard Requirements

In addition, you must complete 16 hours of training from a certified instructor. The training includes courses on handgun safety, handgun maintenance, the proper use of firearms, as well as additional courses on security guard procedures and protocols.

Once these courses are successfully completed, the applicant can then submit their application for an armed guard registration card from the NC Department of Public Safety. This card must be renewed annually, and is valid for as long as the holder continues to work for a security company.

By completing this process, armed guards in North Carolina can ensure that they are properly trained and equipped to protect the people and property that they have been entrusted with.
